My daughter has started to take a real interest in fashion and personal style. She knows she looks great, and therefore naturally feels she should help the less fortunate – like me.
She has made many brilliant observations lately about my personal style choices, and even took me on a shopping trip!
Sara: You need to wear sparkles, Mummy. Because if it’s sparkly, it looks nice.
Me: Eh… that’s a good point, but I don’t really have anywhere to go.
Sara: You like this one!? *world’s largest sparkly earrings*
Me: You’re right, why should I need somewhere to go? I should just wear these in my kitchen. But I’m not sure Mummy needs these right now.
Sara: You don’t like it? That’s ok, darling, come on, let’s have a look over here.
Me: Am I out shopping with my mum?
Sara: Oh shoooooes. Mummy, why don’t you wear the shoes with the sticks?
Me: Stilettos?
I feel at some point S and I need to have a REAL talk.
Me: I’ll have you know, Mummy was actually VERY stylish. She wore shoes with sticks on them all day long, along with pencil dresses that showed off how marvellously flat her tummy was. She had shoes with sticks in every colour, and she would wear them in the office and then strut into the evening.
But Mummy doesn’t wear the “shoes with the sticks” anymore because they are very difficult to run in.
Mummy needs to run A LOT because most days you don’t like to brush your teeth, eat your breakfast, have a bath, or get dressed for school.
So we are late. We are always running late.
Sara: Oh…

Me: Huge earrings aren’t actually a thing anymore. But if they were, Mummy wouldn’t be wearing them because your brother, R, would rip them right out of Mummy’s earlobes, and blood would go everywhere. Then there would be even MORE mess for mummy to clean up.
Sara: Blood….
Me: As for the dress. I don’t do sparkles. Mummy prefers to avoid drawing attention to herself and the many food stains on her clothes. Something that a wet wipe can be used on is best.
This brown outfit, which can conceal poop and chocolate stains, is perfect. And it’s a very “in” colour this season. You see, Mummy is stylish. But mummy likes PRACTICAL fashion. OK.
